Al Howlett's 1933 Ford Coach Hot Rod

The year was 1949 and I still had my model A that you may read about on these pages. At this time I was thinking about replacing the A with something better. I made a deal at Benny's for a 1933 Ford coach 2 door.

It did not have an engine so I bought a 59A flathead engine from Benny. I did some port polishing and installed an ISKY cam with lifters. I sent the block to a machine shop and had the heads milled plus new bearings and pistons.

This engine powered the rod until I sold the body minus the engine back to Benny's in 1954. The 59A engine then wound up in the 1948 Ford pickup that I bought in 1954.

I enjoyed many miles and trips in this car except when it rained as the roof always leaked. Along the way it lost the front fenders for wheel covers. No fenders and hood made it into a hot rod. I was going to install a 2 carb intake but never did get to that. The body was in excellent condition when I retired it.

I hope someone got it and it is still around. But more likely is now fence posts someplace.
